报告摘要:

Fluorescence imaging is a widely-used method for resolving molecular events in cells and tissues. The development of genetically-encoded fluorophores and a detailed understanding of their photophysics is critical for quantitative bioimaging. I will provide an overview of the properties of fluorescent proteins and biosensors and describe some of our research to quantify and improve the photophysics of these important biological probes with directed-evolution. I will also describe a new research direction aiming to dramatically enhance bioimaging by employing quantum optics techniques.

Ralph Jimenez received his Ph.D. degree from University of Chicago at 1996. He was a postdoctoral Fellow working at University of California-San Diego during 1997-1998. Then he took a senior research associate position at The Scripps Research Institute from 1998 until 2003. He joined Department of Chemistry in University of Colorado Boulder and JILA since 2003. He is a principal investigator at JILA and the adjoint associate professor at Department of Chemistry in University of Colorado Boulder.
