Steering Committee Meeting of JIAST was held at 10:00am, June 26th, 2020 Beijing Time. The meeting form is Zoom online conference.Members and staff of the Management Committee of the China-Canada Joint Research Institute attended the meeting

At first, Executive Dean E Wu introduced the new members of the Steering Committee: Professor Zhenrong Sun (Vice President of ECNU) and Professor Junfeng Fang (Director of Engineering Research Center for Nanophotonics and Advanced Instrument).

President Sun first expressed his gratitude to all members of the Steering Committee. At the same time, he also expressed his deep sorrow to the teachers of the UAlberta who lost life in the crash of Ukrainian Airlines flight PS752 at the beginning of this year. This year, ECNU also gave financial support to the joint research projects of the two universities. President sun also hoped that the JIAST would continue to give full play to the common advantages of both sides in the fields of optoelectronic information and advanced nanomaterials and produce more scientific research results in the forefront of the world. 

President Walter Dixon first expressed his gratitude to the Chinese participants, especially to President Sun’s mourning to the UAlberta’s teacher who died in the air crash. President Walter Dixon pointed out that UAlberta has always supported researchers and students to maintain cooperation with colleagues of ECNU.

Executive Dean E Wu gave the annual report of JIAST to members of the Steering Committee. The report mainly covered the work of JIAST from June 2019 to June 2020, such as Sino-Canadian Workshop on Photonics and Nanotechnology, Cooperation Projects, Faculty/Students Mobility, Website Construction, Survey in Zhangjiang, Funding and Cooperation Achievements.

In view of the outbreak of COVID-19 epidemic, members of the Steering Committee had to discuss the 2020~2021 plan and joint research cooperation of JIAST.
