Invitation for 2018 ECNU International Forum for Young Scientists (Scholars)

I. Introduction

To promote academic exchanges and in-depth cooperation between outstanding young scholars at home and abroad, ECNU has taken the initiative to host the annual international forum for young scientists (scholars). During thisperiod, the university's faculties, schools, and departments will also host sub-forums based on different disciplines and academic areas. Through invited speeches on specific topics, academic discussion, and on-the-spot investigation, the forum aims at enhancing the participants' understanding of ECNU and Shanghai.

By now, the forum has been held twice, with more than 120 participants from various countries and regions.

III. Application requirements (Applicants should meet one of the following two requirements)

1. Applicants should be aged below 35 (or 40 for humanities and social sciences), with a PhD degree from prestigious Chinese or foreign institutions of higher learning or research institutes, and an overseas research experience of 3 years in succession (those with exceptional research achievements are not restricted by the number of years working overseas), and have made outstanding academic achievements in their frontier areas.

2. Applicants hold official teaching or research positions in prestigious Chinese or foreign institutions of higher learning, research institutes, or in the R&D department of famous enterprises and have made breakthroughs in their frontier areas. They should also have important academic and social influence.

V. Travel Reimbursement and Accommodation

ECNU will reimburse round-trip air tickets for invited participants(up to RMB 12,000 yuan/person for participants from Europe and America and to RMB 6,000 yuan for participants from other countries or regions). Travel expenses for invited participants from China will be reimbursed upon presentation of original receipts based on the relevant state financial policies. Accommodation during the forum is free and will be arranged by the university.

In addition, the university has 6 MOE Key Research Institutes of Humanities and Social Sciences, 10 Shanghai Municipal Philosophy and Social Sciences Innovation Research Bases and Shanghai Municipal GovernmentDecision Consultation Workshops, and 2 Shanghai University Think Tanks.

The university also has 6 national talent cultivation and scientific research bases for arts and sciences, 2 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 1 national virtual simulation experimental teaching center, and 7 Shanghai municipal experimental teaching demonstration centers.

Based on the core of setting high moral values and cultivating people, enhancing the vitality of talents, the university has formulated a series of efficient policies for talent introduction and cultivation, in order to forge a high level talents team with international competitiveness. Currently, more than 200 high-level talents are working there, including academicians, professors in the Thousand Talents Program, Changjiang scholars, Outstanding youth scholars, professors in the Ten Thousand Talents Plan and the Shanghai Thousand Talents Plan. In addition, it boasts 3 innovative groups sponsored by National Natural Science Foundation of China, 6 111 Talent Introduction Innovation Bases, and 7 Changjiang Scholar Innovation Groups.
